The University of Queensland in Australia has honored Hossam Zawawi, a Saudi scholarship student, for his innovative research projects on protection of human health from the risk of bacterial resistance to antibiotics.

He is on scholarship for a doctoral degree from Riyadh’s National Guard Hospital at the Australian University of Queensland’s Clinical Research Center

Queensland University also honored him by putting his photo on large advertisement banners on the streets of Brisbane city, describing him as a “maker of change”.

Zawawi’s project aims to develop rapid tests to detect the presence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria within hours instead of days by using a fast-piercing bacterium to reduce the duration of treatment of infections and their spread, protecting millions of people around the world from the frightening development of bacterial formation.

Time magazine in 2014 reported that Zawawi is one of the future leaders who seek to change the health future of the world. In addition, non-profit organizations supported his research and honored him.

The Rolex Awards for Enterprise funded Zawawi’s research with approximately $60,000. He plans to fight hospital-acquired infections especially caused by antimicrobial-resistant organisms, helping to choose the appropriate treatment to reduce the infection in a short time.
