Saudi Arabia contributions to help Yemenis, Syrians applauded

Saudi Arabia has called for a political solution in Yemen to ensure the return of legitimate governance and resumption of national dialogue there, according to a statement issued at a meeting held on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly session in New York.

The meeting brought together Prince Dr. Turki bin Mohammed bin Saud Al Kabeer, undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Multilateral Relations, with representatives of international relief organizations.
The statement confirmed that the political process in Yemen must be based on implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2216.
The statement also highlighted the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman’s efforts to provide urgent assistance to the people of Yemen, in response to the request of the UN in this regard.
The participants of the meeting praised Riyadh’s efforts to improve the situation of Yemeni expatriates in the Kingdom, taking into account the difficult circumstances in their country, especially since the Kingdom received 490,000 Yemenis.
The value of Saudi humanitarian aids is estimated at $274 million, while King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Aids had signed a number of memoranda with the UN and other international organizations to provide food and medicine to the Yemeni people.
During the meeting, Prince Turki bin Mohammed discussed plans for raising efficiency of humanitarian aids to the Yemeni people, in light of the difficult conditions caused by Houthi rebels.
Saudi Arabia and coalition forces have set up a mechanism to facilitate works of international teams in addition to an effective coordination between these organizations and coalition forces.
The statement highlighted Riyadh’s contribution to provide humanitarian aid to Syrian refugees and alleviate the hard conditions of the Syrian people, especially since Saudi Arabia has received 2.5 million Syrians, granting them a number of facilities, including healthcare, jobs and educational opportunities.
The Kingdom provided more than $700 million to help Syrian refugees in several refugee camps in the region. The Saudi humanitarian aid includes food, clothing, medicines and healthcare.
The Kingdom has pledged to continue its support to the Syrian people in cooperation with relevant international and regional relief organizations, the statement added.
