Yemeni national resistance foiled an attacked launched by the Houthi militias and their allies in the Southwestern town of Taiz and inflicted heavy losses on them.
Military sources aid heavy fighting erupted when the coup insurgents tried to advance on the Western flank of Taiz and face tough resistance by the national fighters.
The sources, quoted by Yemen’s Masdar Online news network, said fighting continued through Tuesday and Wednesday after the rebels brought heavy reinforcements.
“The Houthis and their allies suffered from large losses and were forced to retreat…they later retaliated by randomly shelling residential areas in Taiz,” a source said.
In a related development, the report said Arab coalition aircraft parachuted medium and light weapons to the resistance fighters in Taiz.
“I don’t want to talk about the weapons supply but I can say now that our forces have achieved major victories in fighting against the rebels in Western Taiz, which was also bombed by the coalition jets,’ said Rashad Al Sharabi, a resistance spokesman.
He said Yemen’s legitimate army and national resistance fighters have seized two more areas in Taiz governorate as they continue their advance.
