Water crisis hits 5 districts in Jeddah

Al-Faisaliah, Aziziah, Mushrefah, Bani Malik and Rehab districts in the city have not received water for over 10 days, and the residents say that water shortage is a regular phenomenon.
Many said they don’t have enough money to afford a water tanker every other day. Worse still, tankers that usually deliver water within an hour of booking are now taking 48 to 72 hours to reach the areas.
Many residents said that attempts to get in touch with the National Water Company (NWC) have proved futile.
An official of client service department at NWC told Arab News that the company will start providing water from Thursday in Al-Faisaliah, and in other districts will get supply according to the water distribution schedule.
The NWC pumps water once in ten days in these districts, he said, rejecting claims of water shortage in these areas.
Ahmed Shaban, a Yemeni resident in Aziziah district, told Arab News that they have not received water for the past two weeks. The last time a water tanker visited the areas was three weeks ago. Residents have to wait for 72 hours to get a tanker after the booking, he said.
“The NWC did not pay attention to poor districts. Residents of Jeddah have suffered from this shortage for two years,” he added.
Abu Salah, a Yemeni resident in Aziziah, said that he has not received water for past 10 days. A number of residents pointed out that now they are forced to go to a water supply location at Tahlia station after being unable to receive service through the call center.
