The Saudi Embassy in Turkey warned Saudi nationals against approaching the Turkish border with Syria following threats to a Saudi citizen at a border city in the country.
In a press statement on its Twitter account, the Saudi Embassy explained the news circulated by media on the assault and attempted killing of a Saudi citizen in a Turkish border city.
The embassy said in the statement that it has contacted the citizen immediately after receiving the news, and was assured of his safety and that no harm was done to him.
The statement added that the Saudi citizen came to the region as a tourist. While he was at a public park, he quarreled with a person not known to him, who threatened to kill him after he disclosed his nationality. The police came to his rescue and he accompanied the police to report the incident.
The embassy said its lawyer contacted the police station where the complaint was filed to know the exact procedures taken in such cases.
The embassy demanded that security authorities in the country take preventive and extra precautionary measures to ensure the safety of the citizen until he leaves the country, pointing out in its statement that it has previously warned the citizen against staying in cities on the Turkish border.
The statement appealed to citizens to stay away from Turkish border cities for their own safety, and to contact the embassy or the consulate in Istanbul to ask for help when needed.
