Saudis warned against fraudsters offering jobs

The Ministry of Civil Service has issued an alert warning citizens of fraudsters offering them jobs in exchange for money.
The ministry would only contact people through its website or by SMS from its official account, said Hamad bin Ibrahim Al-Munaif, spokesman of the ministry.
The ministry does not contact job applicants personally or SMS messages originating from normal mobile phones, Al-Munaif was quoted as saying by a local publication.
He said the ministry received several calls from citizens who said they had been contacted on the telephone by people claiming they were employees of the ministry, offering them possible employment in exchange for money.
Earlier, the ministry announced that the Riyadh police had arrested a person involved in such fraud. He was not an employee and had no links with the ministry, said Al-Munaif.
He said people must not respond to ads created by people of unknown origin. The ministry only advertised jobs on its website and through official Saudi newspapers, he said.
He said that fraudsters are using information gleaned from the ministry’s communication platform to impersonate employees. In addition, he said it was not the ministry that offered jobs, but companies seeking employees. These companies screen employees, including mandatory medical checks, he said.
