Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir said that any solution in Syria must include the departure of the Syrian president Bashar al-Assad.

“If the departure of Bashar al-Assad is not in a peaceful way, his departure will be carried out military”, Al-Jubeir told reporters after the Arab-Latin American summit in Riyadh

Across the Summit, nations supported the first Geneva Declaration, which in 2012 put the outline of the path of peace in Syria, including the establishment of a transitional authority. The statement said that the transitional authority should be chosen by the Syrian government and the opposition in line.

The minister pointed out that the most important points are contained in the final statement of the summit, which was to thank South American countries for recognising the State of Palestine on the 1967 borders, and to emphasize the importance of the rejection of non-interference in the affairs of countries in the region by external force in contravention of the Charter of the United Nations.  Al-Jubeir also noted that there is agreement on the importance of counter-terrorism and extremism, and the importance of communication and dialogue between the followers of religions.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the meeting was very positive in support and pushed forward relations between Arab and Latin American countries.  Al-Jubeir expressed his thanks to all who contributed to the success of the historical summit.
