Sandstorm blankets Jeddah

A massive sandstorm blanketed Jeddah city and most parts of the region on Tuesday evening.

The Presidency of Meteorology and Environment (PME) announced that the sandstorm reduced visibility to less than one km, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

The massive sandstorm, which swept through Jeddah region before sunset, disrupted air and road traffic. Clouds of sand engulfed the city and surrounding areas, forcing drivers to slow down and people to stay indoors.

Several flight services were suspended at King Abdulaziz International Airport while some others were redirected to nearby airports.

PME urged the citizens and expatriates to avoid going out during the dusty weather, and motorists to take utmost vigil and care. It also called on the public to visit PME website to follow instructions on emergency situations caused by inclement weather.
