The Ministry of Education has banned teachers, administrators, parents and students from taking videos or pictures inside schools, with only officially sanctioned documentation allowed.
The ban applies to all public and private schools and kindergartens. The ministry had first drafted the regulations nearly 15 years ago when mobile phones equipped with cameras became popular. However schools and teachers have rarely complied with the ban.
Schools interested in documenting school activities should designate one trained employee to oversee all photography. Photography should be for the sole purpose of official documentation of events, and must be taken with the school’s camera.
Those failing to abide by these regulations would be penalized, the ministry was quoted as saying by a local publication. The ban comes in the wake of several photographs and videos surfacing showing teachers hitting students at schools, despite the ministry banning physical punishment of students.
