The official spokesman for the Presidency of Meteorology and Environment (PME) Hussein Al-Qahtani said on Saturday that Hurricane Meg would have no direct impact on the coasts or the airspace of Saudi Arabia except for the resulting flow of moisture, which may affect the heights of Jazan region.
In a press statement, the spokesman explained that Meg is a first-class hurricane, which was expected to hit the Yemeni Socotra Island, which is close to the center of the hurricane, late Sunday. He pointed out that Socotra Island might be affected by active winds and heavy rain, and then the hurricane would turn into a tropical storm heading west toward the Gulf of Aden and end on the coast of northern Somalia.
He said Meg started as a first class hurricane unlike Chapala, which was classified as a fourth degree hurricane.
