Mounting protests sweeps Lebanon’s streets

Protesters from across Lebanon gather for a demonstration outside the home of killed protester Fawwaz al-Samman, who died after he was shot during riots in late April — in the northern port city of Tripoli on May 3, 2020.

Hundreds took part in the funeral of a young man killed in riots overnight in Tripoli that were triggered by the crash of Lebanon’s national currency that sent food prices soaring.

On May 1, members of the Lebanese security forces are seen extensively in the streets during an anti-government demonstration marking International Workers’ Day (Labour Day), as Lebanese anti-government protesters, some wearing protective masks amid the COVID-19 pandemic, block a road during a demonstration against the growing economic hardship in downtown Beirut.
