Lockdown extended in Dubai

Dubai is considered the commercial hub of the United Arab Emirates.

The Dubai Economic Department said in a statement on Twitter that Dubai has extended the closure of commercial activities until April 18 as part of efforts to contain coronavirus,

During this period, sectors exempted from the lockdown will operate as usual, the statement said.

Dubai announced a two-week lockdown starting on April 4 at 8 p.m. (1600 GMT) to disinfect the emirate and contain the coronavirus.

China on Tuesday reported no new deaths from the Coronarivus over the past 24 hours.

Numbers of daily new deaths in the country that gave rise to the global pandemic have been hovering in the single digits for weeks, hitting just one on several occasions.

The number of new coronavirus cases were also dropping in the European hotspots of Italy and Spain.
