Interpol identified 5800 foreign jihadists out of about 25,000 that have joined terrorist groups in countries such as Syria and Iraq.
The director of Interpol Jurgen Stoke, said in Seville (southern Spain) on the occasion of a conference on the fight against terrorism.
He said that “so far the organization has identified about 5,800 foreign fighters and jihadists from more than 50 countries.”
He added, however, that the full number of those jihadis is at an estimated 25,000.
Stoke called for greater cooperation between countries in this area.
He stressed that “the information is based on the work of the police and that this information must be up to Interpol.”
Specialists and security forces from all over the world attended the conference in Seville for three days. It is designed to exchange information on counter-terrorism.
