Former Italy player Gianfranco Zola has been replaced as coach of Qatari club Al-Arabi after one season.

Al-Arabi says on its website that Gerardo Pelusso of Uruguay has been appointed coach for the 2016-17 season.

Zola was hired one year ago and led the team to place eighth in the 14-team Qatari Stars League.

The 49-year-old Italian previously coached West Ham, Watford and Cagliari.

Pelusso has coached in South American leagues and took charge of Paraguay for part of its failed attempt to qualify for the 2014 World Cup.
