Emirati film 'Hijab' qualifies for Oscar Award

UAE documentary movie Hijab ‘The Tainted Veil’, which throws light on the most discussed and controversial topic of 21st century on women empowerment, has qualified for the best documentary film for Oscars 88th session, a media report said.
The film which was screened in several film festivals including the Los Angeles Film has been praised by the critics across the globe.
The documentary which is around 80 minutes long was registered by the Oscar’s Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in the finalists’ list for the documentary film award.
According to the news-reports, the final list consisting of 15 films will be announced in December.
The documentary was recognised after it was screened by Anasy Media at Carmel International Film Festival at California.
The movie makers expect to reveal a veil of the soul, the mind or the body; the layers of the veil in history and the many meanings behind it with the help of this documentary.
According to Anasy Media officials, women are either judged for wearing the hijab or for not wearing it, the hijab refers to the head covering.
In ‘The Tainted Veil’, the challenges surrounding these ideas are exposed in a debate by diverse guests and extraordinary stories.
The film which is shot in nine countries is an opinion based documentary which gives voice to the differing views of women about wearing the hijab. The documentary has been co-directed by American Ovidio Salazar and Syrian Mazen al Khayrat.
The movie is produced by a well known UAE-based Anasy Media, which features interviews with Muslim women who provide their opinion for choosing or deciding not to wear the veil.
The documentary raises some sensitive arguments what makes the hijab a controversial topic all over the world.
The documentary, also raises some serious questions and arguments that why hijab is considered as tainted and those who are wearing it are too considered as same.
