A British citizen arrested for producing and possessing alcohol in Saudi Arabia will likely be released and returned to Britain by next week, British Foreign Minister Andrew Hammond said on Wednesday.

“Delighted to announce Brit Karl Andree will be released from Saudi custody within a week and reunited with his family,” Hammond wrote on Twitter after meeting figures including King Salman on a visit to Saudi Arabia.

It is speculated that the Kingdom released Andree in order to help smooth over accusations of human rights violations from Western media outlets.  The release of Andree will strengthen good relations between the UK and Saudi Arabia.
