5,654 prisoners release in Morocco amid Coronavirus outbreak,

The justice ministry announced on Sunday that Morocco’s King Mohammed VI has pardoned 5,654 prisoners and ordered measures to protect inmates from the Coronavirus outbreak.

The ministry also stated that the inmates were selected on the basis of their age, frail health, time spent in prison and good conduct.

The North African country has confirmed as of Sunday morning 919 Coronavirus cases, including 59 deaths.

More than 1.1 million people have been reported infected by the novel Coronavirus across the world and 60,049 have died, according to a Reuters tally.

Infections have been reported in more than 200 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019.
