Mobile phone companies’ decline in services angers customers

Customers are expressing their frustrations over the ‘deteriorating’ services of mobile phone companies in the kingdom.

Telephone companies are one of the biggest projects in Saudi Arabia, where Saudi citizens and residents were globally rated as top Internet and phone users.

However, with the widespread use of Internet-based smart phones, users began to cry over deteriorating services provided by mobile phone operators.
Many citizens have proposed a campaign to switch off their phones for a whole day to put pressure on the telephone companies in a bid to have their voices heard, hoping that call rates will be decreased and services improved.
Nadia M, a female Egyptian expatriate, said she suffers a lot from the prices of the mobile Internet services here where the offers are not reasonable.
She received a “one-day for 10-riyal” offer but, unfortunately, she used it for only few minutes. Nadia wanted the telephone companies to be reasonable and think about people’s interests and not only their profits.
Mahmoud T., another expatriate, said he suffered from poor services from phone companies. Explaining his experience, he said he subscribed to one company to use the Internet.
After the company worker finished installing the service for him, there was no connection. He called the company more than 100 times in a week’s period and every time he got the same response saying they would come and solve it soon.
Mahmoud said that he went to the company asking them either to solve the problem or cancel the service.
The manager, surprisingly, told him that cancelation is only possible after two years or he has to pay SR400 riyals.
Moutlaq M., a Saudi citizen, said that he has Internet SIM cards but connection is always poor and unstable which gives him troubles especially when traveling.
Experts say that in order to solve these problems telephone operating firms should start to focus on satisfying customer needs, to respond to complaints of customers and develop their services.
